Artist Residency Programme

The Artist Residency Programme (ARP) is a scheme designed for practising artists. Successful applicants are given between 40 and 80 hours in-kind support studio time for research and development and mentoring from experienced practitioners including: Jacky Lansley, Artistic Director, Dance Research Studio; Anna Furse, Head of Department, Theatre and Performance, Goldsmiths University; Fergus Early, Artistic Director, Green Candle Dance Company; Tony Thatcher, Leader MA Choreography, Trinity Laban and other associate artists based at DRS.

The programme enables a vital and healthy exchange of interdisciplinary ideas and skills across the academic and independent sectors and is supported by the rich backdrop of artistic research and training activities at DRS.

We are always interested in new proposals for ARP

We are currently planning the next series of theme-based residencies at DRS for 2019/2020. Further details coming soon.

In the meantime, here are some useful guidelines:

  • Projects will involve 3-6 artists
  • Applicants will be looking for R & D time to develop a new work
  • The group may include performers, choreographers, directors, designers, composers, film makers, visual artists and writers
  • Applications can be submitted either by a lead artist or collaboratively
  • All participants will have at least 3 years professional experience

Benefits to participants will include:

  • Mentoring from experienced practitioners
  • Networking with other emerging and experienced international dance practitioners
  • Marketing and administrative support towards a final sharing
  • A transition opportunity which both tutors and students can include as part of longer term pedagogic and professional planning
  • A stepping stone opportunity from the academic context into an independent professional environment
